IPL Winners List from 2008 to 2025

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the most intensely contested T20 league in the world as it features the best cricketers from all over the globe. In order to get their hands on the IPL trophy, franchises must play well for a two-month-long period across 16-17 matches. A captain has to create a good winning combination and lead his troops and make them play to the best of their abilities. Along with team success, individual performances also play a key role, with batters competing for the IPL Orange Cap, awarded to the highest run-scorer of the season, and bowlers striving for the IPL Purple Cap, given to the leading wicket-taker.

The code to win the IPL has been cracked by Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings as they are the two most successful franchises of the tournament. Mumbai have won the title five times led by Rohit Sharma while Chennai have also won the title five times under MS Dhoni’s leadership. 

Kolkata Knight Riders are the third most successful franchise of the tournament, having won the trophy 2012 and 2014 under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir while they won the most recent edition in 2024 under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership. Hyderabad also have two titles to their name. They first won in 2009 as Deccan Chargers under the esteem leadership of Adam Gilchrist while in 2016 they won as ‘Sunrisers Hyderabad’ led by David Warner.

Shane Warne became the first captain to win an IPL title during the inaugural season in 2008 leading Rajasthan Royals. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans also won the trophy in their debut season in 2022 under Hardik Pandya’s leadership.
